Emissions
Accelerated environmental sensitivities have created a renewed focus on global warming, along with economic, and health concerns. This has resulted in increased legislation and social pressures, with the purpose of reducing emissions output; petroleum powered vehicles being the primary targets of these new laws. Great opportunity exits in all areas of the emissions market, for companies that are willing to venture there.
The issue… The Environmental Protection Agency, working with the Society of Automotive Engineers established a standard OBD-II communications specification in 1994. The automotive communications experts at Nextek were there well before the standard was created, originally producing products for the fledgling OBD-I automotive market. It’s now 2008, and a large number of the vehicles made or imported into the United States have still not fully adopted, or been forced by the federal government to comply with this standard.
The challenge… OBD-II communication standards that are anything but standard, and vehicle connectivity problems that continue to plague the emissions equipment developer.
The problem… Non-compliance means extreme variations in the electronic systems of cars and trucks, offered by different vehicle manufacturers, which can result in poor connections, lost time, testing inefficiencies, and major headaches which are beyond frustrating.
The solution… “Exception handling” is the key, as modern OBD-II vehicle communications continue to change even more quickly than the atmosphere. Staying ahead of those changes requires ongoing research, market savvy, and an in-depth level of knowledge combined with real-world experience. With a proven track record of excellence, and extensive experience in the field of vehicle emissions testing, inspection and maintenance, only Nextek can offer you and your organization a level of emissions problem solving expertise that is unmatched in the industry.
